Mom Care
If I was going to rate my level of busy from 1-10 I would for sure say 12. With 3 kids, spread out in ages and multiple businesses to run I find myself ran down, often.
After my son was born I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis. Hashimoto’s is an autoimmune disease, essentially what it is, is my immune system is killing my thyroid. Up until recently, I have only been treating my illness with medication. My symptoms have been progressing and getting pretty bad. Primarily my biggest complaint is muscle cramps and spasms. 2 weeks ago they got so bad after a night of teaching dance classes that I could not move or breathe. I was just about in tears, not because of the pain but because of the frustration that my body was causing me so many problems after doing something I love, teaching dance.
At that point, I knew something had to change. So I took the number one food item all the experts say is bad for people with Hashimoto’s off my plate… gluten. I can’t claim to be gluten-free yet, I am taking baby steps and learning all the hidden places where gluten is but I can say with these baby steps I am not only learning that I feel better but I am also learning something about myself as a busy working mom.
How often did I feel crappy and just powered through it and ignored it? I always kinda joked that I had no time to be sick, or to not feel well and just kept going because my to-do list caused me more stress than my sickness. But was I really joking? Nope. I really never slow down enough to listen to my body and if I do listen I certainly don’t take the time to give it what it needs.
So today I encourage you to do something good for your body. It doesn’t have to be huge or take a lot of time. It could be something as basic as using sunscreen or taking a vitamin.
Take baby steps, because mama you have too much to do to be sick!
